Easy Seven Jackets (A Garment Designer Project PDF Book)

Saddle Yoke

A short, semi-fitted jacket that features a saddle shoulder sleeve which extends into a yoke. A box pleat extends from the yoke at center back. A round neckline is used and the center front of the jacket meets without overlap. An optional knit trim is used where the yoke meets the body of the jacket.

Knit-Splice-Trim

A short, fitted, contoured sweater jacket with round neck, and set-in sleeves. In my sample the sleeves of the jacket are pieced with velvet and lace inserts. In Chanel style, the jacket fronts are trimmed with coordinating stretch velvet in the neckline, center front and hem. The fronts meet at the center.

Flange

A long, oversized, straight-cut jacket that features a dolman armhole/sleeve and a shoulder flange that extends over the top of the sleeve at the shoulder. The pleat formed by the flange is secured in place by top stitching it in place at the waist-level. Fabric splicing occurs at the lower body of the jacket as well as on the sleeve. A bias/knit trim finishes the neckline.

Empire

A long, semi-fitted jacket with body-dart fit. The style features an empire waistline and set-in sleeves. A peter pan style collar is added for interest. The front skirt of the jacket may be made squared off or curved. Bias strip facings are used to finish the hem and the neckline/collar.

Asymmetrical Scarf

Scarf Collar A semi-fitted asymmetrical jacket with a V-neckline accented with a scarf-like fabric collar. Slightly lowered set-in sleeves

Asymmetrical Layered

An average fit, round-neck asymmetrical layered jacket with multiple lengths and flared back. A square armhole is featured and accented through the use of flat piping.

Asian Origami

A kimono-sleeved jacket with large rectangular collar and patch pockets. Optional sewn on or fold back cuffs add interest. There are no shoulder or side seams in the jacket design, but they can certainly be added to conserve fabric.
