Keyboard Shortcut!

This command lets you control how you display your counts or options. Note that the command name changes according to your mode. Sewers will not see the word 'Counts', and the dialog that opens will vary somewhat.

Once you select the command, a dialog box opens. You may choose various combinations of display, but bear in mind that the more numbers you have on the screen, the larger you need to set your display (Zoom level) in order to read the numbers (use the Display menu).

Point-To-Point - measures the distance between one point on the garment and the next.
Cumulative - shows you the cumulative dimensions or counts as you go across or up and down the garment (i.e. it adds the numbers for you). Measurements begin at the '0' point which can be set by the user.

Note that the lower part of the window offers you an option to view dimensions 'Without Bands'. This is only available in Knit or Universal mode, and these measurements allow you to see the cumulative or point-to-point distances on a sweater, measured from the backed-off point for the bands (or in other words, without bands).

In the lower part of the Dimension/Count dialog window you will see a checkbox for Detailed Dimensions. These are dimensions that are typically not shown or used for general purpose, but are available for display if you want them. Detailed Dimensions provide you with further measurement information on garment areas that are considered more 'detailed' and generally aren't measured. One good example of a detailed dimension is the width of the flat part of the upper sleeve cap. One generally does not need to know this measurement, however, if you want access to this and some of the other 'fine tuning' measurements, select this check box. Beware however, that as you ask for more dimensions to be displayed, the screen tends to get crowded. You will need to move to a higher zoom/scale level in order to see all the numbers clearly.

Setting the '0' Point for Cumulative Measurements
If you use cumulative measurements or counts, Garment Designer needs a starting or '0' (zero) point. The program defaults the horizontal '0' point to the center of the garment, and the vertical '0' point at the bottom. You have complete control over changing the starting point for measuring garment dimensions and stitch/row counts.

To set the '0' point:

  1. Display cumulative dimensions or counts by setting the appropriate option.
  2. Note that there are currently two '0' points, one for the width measurements of the garment and one for the height measurements.
  3. Move your cursor over the horizontal width number where you want to set a '0' point, and click on the number itself. The zero point now sets itself at this number.
  4. Move your cursor over the vertical length number where you want to set a '0' point, and click. The zero point now sets itself at this number.
