Information and Recommendations (Generate Menu)
Information and Recommendations provide you with valuable information about the seam lengths and seam angles on your pattern. Its purpose is to help you make wise decisions and to prevent you from creating pattern pieces which cannot be easily constructed or joined together.
The information you will find in this window includes the following:
• Length of corresponding Front and Back seams.
• Length of corresponding Left and Right seams.
• Length of armhole and sleeve cap seams and the ease that exists.
• Angles of various pattern 'corners'.
The report will flag with 'red text' certain problems that may occur, such as corresponding seams that do not match and angled seams that could be a problem. You may choose to make changes or deal with the issues.
What are Seam Angles? When two seams are sewn together, they ideally join in such a way that there is a continuous smooth line along their intersection. If the corner of one pattern piece has a 90 degree angle, and it is attached to another pattern piece whose corner has a 90 degree angle, then the intersection will be smooth and continuous.
Areas where good transitions are important are:
• Side seam at the underarm joins.
• Side seam at the hem joins.
• shoulder seam at the neckline join
• Center front joins (hem or neckline).
• Underarm sleeve joins (at bottom and underarm).
Use the Information and Recommendations report to aid you in designing. It is intended to be a guide. Of course, you can break rules, for design purposes. The key is to be able to sew the garment together and have an easy time in doing so.
