Princess Styles
Garment Designer offers two types of Princess Templates; Shoulder-Fit and Armhole-Fit. These are found in the Top and Dress Group style menu. You can customize and edit the princess styles as necessary, but you will need to separate the two panels after you print the paper pattern.
To add seam allowances, do so in the following manner:
- Choose Global Seam Allowances from the Additions menu.
- Shift + click on the dart arms of the shoulder or armhole, and then choose the Custom Seam Allowance menu command in the Additions menu. Type in '0' as the custom seam allowance.
This removes the seam allowance from the internal body seam. You can print the pattern, and then separate the pieces and add the seam allowance, either on the paper pattern, or as you cut. You may want to add a little fullness, in the bust area of the pattern (by adding a little extra ease to the side front/back piece). This is generally added in the apex area. A princess option is also found in the Empire styles that are discussed next.
Before you cut the two pattern pieces apart, it would be helpful to draw several lines across the seam lines of the princess seam (perpendicular to the seam), to facilitate the matching of the two pattern pieces later when you sew them together.
