Standard Bands (Additions Menu)

Bands are specifically designed for knitters and these represent the ribbings/welts that knitters use. The logic for bands is internally different than the other garment additions, as bands become a separate piece that adjoins to the main piece via a seam or other method. When you work with bands, you will see that they behave/display differently from the other additions. This is because the size/shape of the garment piece changes when you add a band, in that the garment becomes smaller, by the amount/depth of the band. Prior to an ‘addition’, the garment is drawn in black. Once you make an addition, a new color is introduced to show you the placement of the addition. Bands measure at the backed-off point.

The Standard Bands command opens the Standard Band dialog box. When you open the dialog, you will see that there are no measurement defaults. Every band is set at 0 inches. We did this, so that you wouldn’t have to perform two steps to see the bands (as in the past with Garment Styler... setting dimensions of the bands and then asking to see them displayed). By making the default setting 0, we created a situation where the bands internally are displayed at all times, but if there is a ‘0’ value, you won’t see them. The Enabled Additions command item allows the user to turn the display of the bands on and off, and the default setting is ‘on’ as indicated by the check mark.

Note:
Garment Designer has allowed you great freedom in how you plan the ease for your garments. If you like, you may choose to make a pullover vest, but use the cardigan styles ease allowance. Choose a cardigan style and turn this into a vest, by simply leaving off the center front band (by entering a 0 value for its width), and turn on the armhole band to your desired width (by entering a band width of your choice).
